Center for Migration Studies

From our Portfolio
CMS Homepage

Established in 1964, the Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS NY) is a think tank and an educational institute devoted to the study of international migration, to the promotion of understanding between immigrants and receiving communities, and to public policies that safeguard the dignity and rights of migrants, refugees and immigrants. CMS NY works with policy-makers on international, regional, national and local levels; scholars and researchers; faith-based groups; non-governmental and community-based organizations; and other civil society groups.

Continuing our partnerships with nonprofits and think tanks, Social Ink worked with key staff and stakeholders at the Center for Migration Studies to completely overhaul their old website. The result of our collaborative work is an immersive flagship site that serves as an introduction to the organization and a user-friendly guide to its vital research publications.

Key features of this project included advanced search and filtering of the organization’s many multimedia resources and publications, flexible contact forms, email newsletter integration, and the seamless integration of 3rd party software. The site is responsive across several browsers on multiple monitors, phones, and displays.

We’re very pleased to help CMS NY launch this dynamic new platform. Our work with them is a testament to our expertise in creating websites for think tanks and policy institutes!

Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) is the largest union of Registered Nurses and health care professionals in New Jersey. With more than 12,000 members, they are also the fastest growing health care union in the state. Nurses, social workers, therapists, technicians, medical researchers, and other healthcare professionals join HPAE to advance and improve patient care and professional practices and working conditions in their health care facilities. Whether it is advocating for safe staffing at the bedside, for patient and worker safety, for adequate funding for medical research and health care access, HPAE members play a strong role in setting standards for health care throughout New Jersey and the nation.

In the summer of 2016 we launched the new flagship site for Health Professionals and Allied Employees. Planning strategically with the union’s leadership, Social Ink built a custom CMS powered by WordPress, created to manage events, downloadable publications and union forms, campaigns, and much more. Designed and developed to grow as the union grows, this site reflects HPAE’s transition from a regional advocate to a national presence.

Key features of the site include a custom locals locator for union members and a hub for each individual local. The site is responsive across several phones, tablets, screens, other displays.

Our collaboration with HPAE expands our great portfolio in the political arena. We’re delighted to continue creating websites for unions and advocacy organizations!

Members of the American Federation of Musicians perform in orchestras, backup bands, festivals, clubs and theaters—both on Broadway and on tour. AFM members also make music for films, TV, commercials and sound recordings. As the largest union of musicians in the world, AFM has the power to make the music industry work for musicians.

Social Ink is proud to have worked with the American Federation of Musicians on the complete overhaul of their flagship site. Built in the user-friendly WordPress CMS, the site primarily serves current and potential members. We coordinated with AFM leadership to design an immersive site that gave them embedded video, social media integration, news, an interactive feature demonstrating the steps of union organizing, and easy-to-reference resources for various types of musicians.

Key features of the site include dual language options for the many French speaking members in the Canadian branch of the union, an interactive travel kit tool with quick tips and resources for traveling with instruments, a locator for union locals, and mobile and responsive design.

We are thrilled to continue our work with progressive organizations, creating websites for political organizations and advocacy groups.

Scholars at Risk at NYU

From our Portfolio
Scholars at Risk Homepage

Scholars at Risk offers safety by arranging temporary academic positions at member universities and colleges to scholars facing grave threats, so scholars’ ideas are not lost and they can keep working until conditions improve and return to their home countries.

In spring 2016, Social Ink worked with Scholars at Risk to completely overhaul the network’s home on the web. We partnered with administrators from SAR to create a web platform that allowed international branches of the organization to upload their specific content and integrate Salsa forms for donations and scholar submissions. The site is responsive across several tablets, monitors, and phones.

Social Ink is glad to have made this site with Scholars at Risk. It represents our work at the nexus between advocacy and academia.

Global Institute for Advanced Study at NYU sponsors working research groups on innovative and (typically) interdisciplinary topics that require cooperation on an international scale and a sustained multi-year focus.

Social Ink and the Global Institute for Advanced Study at NYU worked together in 2016 to create a web presence for the university institution. GIAS provides financial and academic support to working groups based in existing departments of NYU, led by an NYU faculty member.

The new GIAS site utilizes an open-source, user-friendly WordPress CMS, providing a customized backend experience for no-code site administration and growth. Key features include an easy-to-update Current Projects template and mobile responsive design that adapts content for myriad screens sizes.

We’re happy to have partnered with GIAS on this project that helps to support scholars and their research endeavors. The design and development of the institute’s new site is a continuation of Social Ink’s work on websites for nonprofits and university organizations!

Civic Explore

Interactive Map

Civic Explore is the project of several organizations in New York City that aims to collect data to shine a light on ideas such as the availability of bicycling as alternative energy policy across gender, race and age, the effect of policing on bicycling as alternative energy policy, and the effect of other available transportation—like public transit or taxis—on bicycling policy.

Social Ink worked with Civic Explore to create a home on the web for its data. Civic Explore’s audience is now able to easily engage and interpret the project’s research across several digital channels.

Key data visualizations on the site include an interactive graph that sorts data by age, time, and gender, and an interactive map that highlights relevant precincts of the collected data. Mobile responsive design adapts the site’s content for screens of various sizes. The platform  is powered by the open-source, user friendly WordPress CMS, providing a customized backend experience for no-code site administration and growth.

We’re happy to partner with Civic Explore and continue our work on websites for researchers!

Public Curricula

From our Portfolio
Public Curricula

Public Curricula is an advocacy group concerned with the intersections of social justice, technology and technology’s audience. From international trade agreements to neighborhood protests, technology is integral to everyone’s life. But how we use it should not be taken for granted. PC approached us about an issue dear to their members’ hearts: openness, privacy concerns and big tech companies.

With Public Curricula team, we devised a comparison tool that allowed the user to compare take-down requests from governments across the world, and how Google responded in the various countries in which it operates. Importing data via Google’s open database files, we created a simple, visually strong tool that utilized predictive typing, infographic comparison and other visual cues to quickly communicate the problem without overwhelming the user.

The site is responsive and mobile across various displays and phones.

We were very pleased to work with Triangle on their new web platform; this project serves as a great example of Social Ink’s expertise on websites for manufacturers.

Reading Rescue brings expertise in intervention into schools; not only do the students who are tutored excel, but as a result of improved pedagogical skills, a significant collateral benefit is increased achievement among all the students taught by a school’s Reading Rescue-trained tutors.

Social Ink worked with the Literacy Trust to create a new online home for its literacy intervention program, Reading Rescue. Our team created a robust CMS in WordPress for a website that serves Reading Rescue’s tutors and other stakeholders. The site is a teaching resource for tutors and an online calling card for other users.

It’s been a pleasure to work alongside Reading Rescue during the creation of their new platform. We are happy to expand upon our work on websites for nonprofits!
