Vera Institute of Justice–SARTs in Corrections

The SARTs in Corrections site represents our collaboration with foundations and nonprofits working for justice in correctional environments.

Project Brief

In 2003, Congress passed the landmark Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), recognizing that sexual abuse is a serious and persistent problem in correctional environments. The Vera Institute of Justice helped the Johnson County Department of Corrections form a partnership with the county’s sexual assault response team (SART) and develop a comprehensive sexual assault response policy for an adult community confinement facility and a local juvenile facility. The SARTs in Corrections website reflects the project’s work and the lessons learned throughout the process and features a guide to help facilities implement the PREA standards.

Social Ink is very pleased to lead the design and development for the Sexual Assault Response Teams in Corrections’ home on the web, a site disseminating the project’s guide for community confinement and juvenile detention facilities.

The interactive site leads administrators of local community confinement and juvenile detention facilities through the steps of connecting with a local SART. Administrators can download and print each part of the guide, including training materials and participant surveys.  Social Ink completed the graphic design of the guide’s print layout and in the CMS we built a custom interface for building new chapters dynamically. The site’s responsive design makes sure users will have an easy time viewing the information on most phones, tablets, and larger monitors.

We’re very glad to have worked with researchers and administrators from the Vera Institute of Justice on this tremendously important project. The PREA SARTs site represents our continuing work on websites for foundations, nonprofits, think-tanks, and government jurisdictions.

Social Ink has been in NYC since 2007!
