There are nearly 12 million admissions to local jails annually. The Safety and Justice Challenge is an initiative to reduce over-incarceration by changing the way America thinks about and uses jails.

Social Ink is thrilled to spearhead the web design and development for the MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Challenge, a major initiative working toward nationwide jail reform. Working alongside policy and research leaders at the Vera Institute of Justice, the website provides a staging platform for the grant-seeking competition, as well as issue-related resources, research and reports, and as an ongoing way to track progress by selected jurisdictions.

As a flagship site in early 2015, the Safety Justice and Challenge represents our work in the nexus between nonprofits, think-tanks, foundations, and government and legal jurisdictions.

Through local, community-based advocacy work, we are proud to further the efforts of the NYC Justice Corps, continuing our own work building websites for nonprofits and community-based organizations.

Donald Katz is a journalist, author, and founder of Audible.com. His 1992 book, Home Fires, has been reissued this year.

We worked alongside Donald’s staff and media team to create a personal brand, identity and website. Specialty work on the project included a two-pronged navigation system, embedded social media and video, and a flexible production environment responsive to the timelines involved with a major book release.

As part of our work designing and developing websites for creatives, including writers and new media professionals, it’s been great working with Donald and team. We encourage you to visit Don’s new site and explore his rich body of work. From essays and articles, to Home Fires and other books, to work with Audible — in Newark, and beyond!
